Programma

Each science, and each paradigm within it, is characterized by more or less explicit and articulated definitions both of its object of study (ontology) and of the type of knowledge that can allegedly be given thereof (epistemology). In this course we will analyze and discuss some perspectives on the nature of the mind and the structure of psychology. We will consider the consequences that each of them has on some crucial issues like free will or dichotomies like behavior/experience, objective/subjective, realism/constructivism. We will also exam psychology’s disparate relation with neighboring scientific areas, particularly with physics-chemistry and biology.

ABSTRACT
Each science, and each paradigm within it, is characterized
byamoreorless explicit and articulated definitions both of
its object of study (ontology) and of the type of knowledge
that can allegedly be given thereof (epistemology) and how
it may be built (methodology). In this course we shall analyze
and discuss some of the most interesting views of the
natureof the mind and the structureof psychology.Weshall
consider the consequences that each has on some crucial
issues like free will or dichotomies like behavior/experience,
objective/subjective, realism/constructivism. We shall
also exam the complex relations that psychology has with
neighboring scientific areas, particularly with physics-chemistry, biology and the sciences of the artificial.
